“The Island of Tranquility”
Maio is where you should go if you love the beach, but not the bustle. Its white-sanded coastline is very similar to those of Boa Vista and Sal but it differs considerably in that it has escaped becoming a major recipient of foreign tourist traffic. This is likely because of its relative lack of infrastructure, the absence of an international airport (flights are usually via Santiago), and infrequent maritime transport. Whatever the case, Maio is relatively untouched by the outside world and remains an oasis of tranquility surrounded by the warm turquoise waters of the Atlantic.
Enjoy many of the same activities here as you would on Boa Vista or Sal, including SCUBA, kite/windsurfing, and other water sports. The seafood on Maio is particularly abundant, cheap, and delicious as well.
