Who we are…
A native of Chicago, IL, Robert Sarwark served as a Peace Corps volunteer in the capital city of Praia, on Santiago island. He worked primarily at the newly founded University of Cape Verde as an instructor in the Department of English as well as a project coordinator and liaison with international educational programs. He returned to Cape Verde less than a year after closing his service to work in the transportation sector. During this time he also began work as a freelance consultant to a public health and communications project funded by the development arm of the government of Luxembourg. Robert speaks Portuguese, southern Cape Verdean Creole (“Badiu”), Spanish, and more recently has begun to study and learn French. He holds a Master’s degree in Portuguese and Brazilian Studies from Brown University.
Cathryn Duffy-Ramos, born and raised in Queens, NY, served as a Small Enterprise Development volunteer in Cape Verde’s second largest city, Mindelo, on São Vicente island. There she worked at the SOS Children’s Village social center, coordinating the daily programs at the center and helping to raise money to build a playground – the first in Mindelo. After leaving the Peace Corps, Cathryn decided to stay in Mindelo to work at a growing incoming tourist agency with a focus on providing service to European tour operators and international cruise lines. With her experience she hopes to help grow the American tourist market, giving Americans the chance to experience the beauty of Cape Verde for themselves. Cathryn speaks northern Cape Verdean Creole and holds an M.S. in Business Management and Leadership from CUNY (The City University of New York).
Cathryn and Rob are both very enthusiastic about introducing Cape Verde and its many highlights to the world at large! Get in touch today for a free consultation: firstname.lastname@example.org.
